Fake crypto support scams target users who are already worried: a wallet is not working, a transaction is stuck, or an account is locked. Scammers pose as support agents on social media, in community chats, by email, or by phone, offering fast help in exchange for sensitive information or a malicious action. Real support teams follow strict limits: they will never ask for your seed phrase or private key, never ask you to share your screen while entering secrets, and never ask you to send crypto to verify or unlock an account. Knowing those limits helps you spot fake support instantly, even when the message looks urgent and professional.

Fake support often appears within minutes of a public complaint. If you post in a project's community chat or on social media that you have a problem, scammers may reply first, claiming to be support, and move the conversation to a direct message. They may use a username similar to an official account, copy profile pictures and bios, and link to a fake support site or form. Other scams arrive unprompted by email or text, claiming suspicious activity, a security upgrade, or a wallet migration that requires immediate action. Urgency is the main tool: the message pressures you to act before checking whether the sender is genuine.

The most dangerous request is for your seed phrase or private key. Scammers may frame it as wallet validation, synchronisation, recovery, or a security check, and they may provide a form or site that looks official. Entering your phrase there gives the scammer full control of your wallet, and funds can be moved within minutes. Other requests include remote access software, screen sharing while you log in, or installing a supposed support app that is actually malware. Legitimate support can help by asking for a public wallet address, transaction hash, screenshots with sensitive details removed, or error messages, but never needs your private credentials to investigate a public transaction.

To verify support, always start from official sources you find yourself, not from links in a message. Go to the project's official website or app, find its support page or help centre, and use the contact method listed there. Check that social accounts are verified where verification exists, and compare usernames and follower history carefully, because impersonators often have recently created accounts. If someone contacts you first claiming to be support, treat the contact as suspicious by default, even if they know your public wallet address or transaction details, because that information is often public on the blockchain.

Be especially careful with search results and ads. Scammers buy ads for fake support numbers and sites that appear above official results when you search for wallet help. Always navigate to the official site by typing its known address or using a bookmark, rather than clicking the first ad. In community chats, official support staff usually do not direct message users first, and many projects state this explicitly in their rules. If a community moderator or admin contacts you privately without you requesting help, verify their identity through a public channel before sharing any information.

If you realise you shared a seed phrase, private key, or approved a suspicious transaction, act immediately. Create a new wallet with a new seed phrase on a clean device, move any remaining funds to the new wallet, and revoke suspicious token approvals from the old wallet where possible. Change passwords for related email and exchange accounts, enable authenticator-based two-factor authentication, and review account activity for unauthorised changes. Do not pay anyone who promises to recover stolen funds, because recovery scams frequently target victims who have already lost money once.

Finally, report fake support accounts, sites, and messages through the platform's reporting tools and, where relevant, to the project's official team through verified channels. Reporting helps protect other users who may receive the same scam. Keep a simple personal rule: support never needs your seed phrase, never needs remote access to your device, and never needs a payment to unlock your wallet. Any message that breaks those rules is a scam, no matter how helpful, urgent, or official it appears. Pausing, verifying through official channels, and refusing to share secrets will keep you safe in almost every support situation.
